V/A - Austin Noise 2012 (Instincto Records 2012)

I’m not gonna lie, I was intimidated by this compilation, to say the least.  I mean 40 noise artists, of which I’ve only heard of 4 beforehand?  That’s fucking scary.  Over the course of two hours. these two CDrs help you explore what seems to be a super rich noise scene in Austin Texas.  Every kind of noise is represented (except HNW, which i don’t think there is time for), lo-fi harsh pedal play, 8-bit glitchy noise, collage noise, sampling, analog synth worship, homemade gear destruction, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.  

It’s so hard to review compilations, especially one of this magnitude.  These two CDrs have so many peaks and valleys, goods, bads, excellents, horrids, stranges, you can seriously hit every human emotion while listening.   Even the bad stuff makes you think, or chuckle.  I love shit like this, because I don’t know if I’d ever get to go to a noise show in Austin, and I most never would be exposed to most of these artists.  While listening though there were a few artists that really excited me, and will be requiring my further attention.  These artists are: Dia Bas, BORN, Sex Bruises, Tigre Merde, Douglas Ferguson, Power Monster, Aunt’s Analog (who I actually discovered on MYSPACE like 6 years ago but have never been able to track down any of their releases!), Korperschwache, Gym Mat Nap, Youthful Masturbation Techniques, Mugwump (AWESOME name!), Dakota Hogback, Skullcaster, Ruthless Dukes, Epop Nivek. 

Seriously though, if you can track down a copy of this I suggest you buy it.  I don’t know how though, the label has a website that looks like it hasn’t been updated in quite some time, I got my copy from one of my readers (Meepsy!).  Which reminds me, SEND ME SHIT TO REVIEW!
